Google announced yesterday that it will now let users create and share hosted websites on Google Drive.

Users can now host webpages on Google Drive

Google has also clearly explained the hosting process to users. Users can just create a new folder in the drive and share it on the web. They can upload HTML, JS & CSS files to this folder. Later they will have to open the HTML file to find the “Preview” button in the toolbar to share the URL that looks like www.googledrive.com/host/… and make anyone view their webpage.

Google Drive, a free service provided by Google, allows users to save all files including documents, spreadsheets, videos and Google Docs online and access them anywhere. Users who use Google Drive for saving and sharing files can benefit from this added functionality. Though it’s a simple update, it will be of great use to developers as they can design their website’s prototype for free and see how it works.

Though the company asks people to first share their files publicly, there can’t be any privacy issues as no one will be able to see the completed website unless users explicitly give others the link. Google aims to make people use Google Drive over other competing cloud services like Dropbox or SkyDrive.
