The Annual Planning Meeting of SIDA (Software Industries Development Association of South Tamil Nadu) was held at the premises of Dot Com Infoway’s Madurai office on December 22, 2010.SIDA (Software Industries Development Association of South Tamil Nadu) was formally launched in October 2010 with the primary objective of supporting local software services companies to achieve international standards and thereby, create a conducive environment for Information Technology in South Tamil Nadu, India. As a part of the forum’s activities, an Annual Planning Meeting was held at Dot Com Infoway’s Madurai office premises recently, on December 22, 2010.
The President of SIDA, Mr. R. Sivarajah of Winways Systems Private Limited welcomed the members and briefed the establishment process of the forum and spelled out objectives of the meeting. He also briefed on the work plan for the year 2011. The Secretary of SIDA, Mr. Ashwin Desai of A&T Network Systems announced the proposed structure of the forum, including that of the chairpersons for SIDA’s various panels.
The office bearers for the year 2011 will be as follows: Mr. R. Sivarajah – President; Mr. A.Kathirkamanathan and Mr. C. R. Venkatesh as Vice Presidents; Mr. Ashwin Desai as Secretary; Mr. Shivakumar as Joint Secretary; and Mr. P.Varadarajan as Treasurer. The panel for Human Resource Development will be headed by Mr. C. R. Venkatesh while Mr. A. Kathirkamanathan will be the Head of Finance and Fund Raising panel. Mr. Srinivasan will lead the panel for Business Operations Support and Mr. S. Radhakrishnan will be panel head for Business Development.
The members of SIDA discussed about various issues related to the software industry in South Tamil Nadu. They demanded Elcot to provide projects related to South Tamil Nadu to the software industries located there. They also planned to organize a Road Show in Chennai and Bangalore as a step for brand creation. The members were also advised to purchase land in Madurai SEZ with a vision to form a cluster in the near future.
As the Chairperson of HRD, Mr. C. R. Venkatesh of Dot Com Infoway handled a session on Human Resource problems faced in a tier II city like Madurai. He said that the best and usual method for hiring is through job portals and people mostly hire from other cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi. The company has to offer outstation candidates a relocation bonus, in addition to the allowances for food and accommodation. So, to tackle this problem, “70 percent of the employees are appointed as freshers” in his company, he added. Further, in his speech he said, “Poaching is a main problem here in Madurai and we should stand united to curb it.” Other members also shared their views about the united initiatives SIDA needs to take to curb problems faced by IT companies in Madurai and South Tamil Nadu.
